Privacy policy
The short version: I collect what you type into a form so I can reply to you, and the store address you test so I can see how the speed test is used. I do not sell it or share it for marketing.
Who is responsible
This site is run by Muhammad Bilal Burney, a freelance Shopify developer based in Karachi, Pakistan. I am the person responsible for the personal data described here. For anything about your data, write to hello@bilalburney.com.
When you send an enquiry or ask for a free audit
The project form, the contact form and the free speed audit forms collect what you enter: your email address, and depending on the form your name, your store or brand, your budget and timeline, and your message. With it I record which form you used, the page you sent it from, the time, and the country your connection came from. The country is worked out by the hosting provider from your IP address; the IP address itself is not stored.
I use this to reply to you, to prepare the audit or proposal you asked for, and to keep track of the conversation. The basis is that you asked me to: these are steps taken at your request before any agreement.
When you run the speed test
The speed test on the homepage sends the store address you enter to Google PageSpeed Insights, which loads that store and returns the scores you see. I keep a record of the address, the scores, the page you ran it from, the time and the country your connection came from, to understand how the test is used. The test asks for no name or email, and the address you test is usually a business’s public website rather than personal data.
Analytics and cookies
- Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights count visits and measure how fast pages load. They do not use cookies.
- Google Analytics 4 measures which pages are visited and how people arrive at the site. It sets cookies.
- Microsoft Clarity records sessions and heatmaps (clicks, scrolling, how the page was laid out) so I can see where the site is confusing. It sets cookies.
Google Analytics and Clarity load only if you choose Accept in the cookie banner. If you choose Reject, or make no choice, neither runs and neither sets a cookie. You can change your mind at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page; withdrawing removes their cookies. Your choice is remembered in your browser’s local storage. None of these tools runs on the private admin pages where enquiries are read.
Who else handles the data
Only the services the site needs to work:
- Vercel hosts the site and runs the forms.
- Supabase stores enquiries and speed test records in a database that only I can read.
- Resend delivers enquiries to my inbox by email.
- Google runs the PageSpeed test and Google Analytics; Microsoft runs Clarity.
Some of these process data outside the UK and the EU: the database is hosted in India, other services run in the United States, and I work from Pakistan. I do not sell personal data or share it with anyone for their own marketing.
How long it is kept
- Enquiries are deleted automatically 24 months after they arrive, unless we went on to work together, in which case they are kept as part of the record of that work.
- Speed test records are deleted automatically after 12 months.
- Emails in my inbox are kept for as long as the conversation is useful, and deleted on request.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what I hold about you, ask me to correct it or delete it, or object to how it is used. Write to hello@bilalburney.com and I will reply within one month. If you are in the UK you can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk), and in the EU to your local data protection authority.
Changes
If what the site collects changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated. Questions are welcome at hello@bilalburney.com, or see the contact page.
